Welcome to Lazy Mama’s first post. I should begin this inaugural post with a caveat- I’m really not a lazy mom. In fact, in most ways I’m the farthest thing from it. I am a full time lawyer at a large law firm as well as a mother of a 9 month old baby girl. My life is often one big circus and I am thus prone do doing things like crashing my car into my garage when I am preoccupied and rushing during a break from working to run out to get my highly constipated daughter laxative pills (this just happened the other day). So, when I say lazy, what I really mean is that since becoming a new mommy less than a year ago, I have made it my mission to find every time (and money!) saving trick, gadget and gizmo out there so as to keep myself, and my family, from going completely nuts but not sacrificing quality- because while I am a “Lazy Mama”, I am also the quintessential mom who wants to give her baby girl everything in the world.
It’s a tricky thing to try to figure out which shortcuts are worth it, and which keep me from being nominated worst mother of the year, and instead hopefully make me an even better mom. For example, baby food. Near the end of my maternity leave, I was visiting with a friend who has a baby a few months older than my daughter. She was regaling me with stories about how easy, and better it is to make your own baby food. She had this amazing all-in-one gadget from Williams Sonoma which apparently does everything in one machine. By the end of the afternoon, I was hooked. I promptly went home, ordered the book that she recommended about making your baby food, and planned to go to Williams Sonoma the next day. I told my husband of my plans and he just laughed. Let’s just say that in line with my Lazy Mama mentality, cooking for me is zapping something in the microwave for 30 seconds. Well, as you can probably guess, by the time my daughter was ready for solid foods, I was back at work and wanted to spend whatever free time I had playing with her, not steaming her veggies. And, yet… I still was hooked on the whole organic/eat from the earth idea. So, what’s a Lazy Mama to do? I did some quick research and found that Earth’s Best- a manufacturer of organic baby food products that I love (no added salt/refined sugar/artificial flavors), has a fabulous website- you can order all of their products online (hence reducing the schleps to the grocery store) and as an added bonus, they even have a link for coupons (I am a huge fan of coupons, and you should be too in this economy!) and also nutrition guides and other fun stuff. So I am feeding my daughter the good stuff, saving money, and saving time.
And thus came the idea for this blog- whether stay at home or full time career women or somewhere in between, we mommas are a busy bunch, and my hope is that in sharing some of the tidbits that I glean along the way, if I save some of you mommas some time or money along the way than I have done my job! Which reminds me, I should probably get back to my REAL job….
